Making a Great Business Plan

Successful people are rooted in a strong belief system – spiritual belief, belief in themselves, belief in the work they do, and belief in the people around them.  3-5% of business owners earn considerable wealth.  Their so-called secret making a business plan and updating it regularly.

With my business coaching clients, and in my own business, we plan quarterly. We pull out the plan once a quarter, compare what’s been accomplished to the goals we set, consider what internal and external changes have taken place, adjust the plan as needed, and set new quarterly, monthly, and weekly actions and tasks.

As the owner, you’ve got to get out in front of the growth curve to focus on the future. We get lost or sidetracked and can even drown in the day-to-day operations of business ownership. It’s inevitable and really, it’s not so dangerous if you’ve got a set of goals and tasks that you can always refer back to, to get back on track, especially if you’re certain that those goals support your long term future.

Like a lot of business owners, you’ve set a lot of goals but, often, they’re not linked to your long term vision for your business. If you haven’t clearly spelled out where you want to be in 10-30 years, how can you set annual goals that will get you there? What’s your purpose? Your BHAG? (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)?
